Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto asks the Indonesian National Armed Forces-Police to be vigilant in the conduct of the concurrent Pilkada of 2024.

Typically, the Pilkada is held twice, namely the local implementation and the legal dispute process at the Constitutional Court (Mahkamah Konstitusi). “Typically, if the Pilkada is held twice, it means what? That means first held locally, and then at the MK,” said Hadi while giving instructions in the Coordination Meeting of the 2024 concurrent Pilkada organizers in Makassar, South Sulawesi, on June 26th. “That’s why the Indonesian National Armed Forces-Police must be cautious about security during the actual Pilkada and during the MK sessions, ensuring the readiness of the TNI-Polri forces to safeguard the regions,” he continued. Hadi hopes the 2024 Pilkada stages will run without problems and securely without any hindrances in their conduct. Additionally, post-Pilkada security must also be ensured. Hadi added that political and legal stability is crucial. According to him, the situation and condition of Polhukam stability will greatly affect the Pilkada stages. “We agree that all components of the nation and state must to maintain political, legal, and security stability for the 2024 Pilkada,” he ended. Anticipating Conflict Before the 2024 Pilkada Hadi Tjahjanto provided a special message to the TNI, Polri, and BIN for the security of the 2024 concurrent Pilkada. Hadi urged that regions with potential conflicts must be addressed before security disturbances arise. He said this while giving guidance in the Coordination Meeting of the 2024 Pilkada organizers in Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Wednesday. “Particularly TNI, Polri, and BIN. BIN was also present, in the mapping of regions, must identify regions with potential conflicts to anticipate security issues before they occur,” said Hadi. “TNI, Polri, and BIN have to be alert, aware beforehand, so that they can mitigate any potential issues,” he added. Furthermore, Hadi called for collaboration from local governments in facilitating the 2024 Pilkada implementation. If local governments fail to support, the simultaneous Pilkada will inevitably be disrupted. “Therefore, total synergy can ensure the successful conduct of the 2024 simultaneous Pilkada,” he said. Hadi reminded local governments to take important measures, including avoiding overlaps between the central and local governments.
