PKS has officially nominated Anies Baswedan with Sohibul Iman as the gubernatorial and vice-gubernatorial candidates for the 2024 Jakarta Pilkada.

Chairman of Bawaslu Malang City, Mochammad Arifudin, stated that the petitioner’s main points, namely the independent candidate pair Sam HC-Rizky Boncel, had been presented. However, the respondent’s response was postponed to Wednesday. “The respondent was not ready to provide their response. We have also not received the draft from the respondent,” stated Arifudin after the hearing. The dispute arose after the KPU’s administrative verification results declared that the Sam HC-Rizky Boncel pair had only submitted 40,689 support documents out of the minimum requirement of 48,882 supports needed to become independent candidates in the 2024 Pilkada. Meanwhile, according to Sam HC-Rizky Boncel, they had 54,000 supports. In a closed mediation at Bawaslu Malang City on Saturday, no agreement was reached, leading to the adjudication hearing.

Thus, the quick count results of the second round of the 2017 DKI Pilkada have the potential to shape the policy direction and political dynamics in Jakarta in the long term and impact the governance and development of the region.

The voting and recapitulation process in the 2017 DKI Jakarta Pilkada was crucial and involved active public participation. With transparent and honest procedures, the results of the 2017 DKI Jakarta Pilkada were expected to be acknowledged by all parties and represent the true will of the people in choosing regional leaders.

Habiburokhman finds it difficult to map out who the competitors of KIM are in Jakarta. He also questions whether it can be ensured that there will be a party joining PKS. “So it is difficult to map out whether there will be another party joining or not,” he said.

Previously, the National Awakening Party (PKB) stated that they want to collaborate with PDIP to build Jakarta together. PKB Secretary General Hasanuddin Wahid said that PKB cadres and grassroots are encouraging Anies Baswedan to run in the Jakarta Regional Election. According to him, the decision will be more legitimate if PDIP supports Anies. “The essence is that we want to build Jakarta together with PDIP,” said Hasanuddin Wahid to reporters on Tuesday (25/6/2024).

5. Vote Recapitulation

The provisional results from each TPS were then summed up and recapitulated at the district, city, and provincial levels. This process was conducted by the KPU (General Election Commission) to produce the final election results for the governor and deputy governor.

The 2017 DKI Jakarta Pilkada was the third direct regional head election for Jakarta. The Pilkada, held to elect the governor and deputy governor, garnered significant public attention as DKI Jakarta is one of the largest and most important regions in Indonesia. The voting process in the 2017 DKI Pilkada included several stages, such as voter registration, polling station (TPS) locations, and vote tallying.

PKS President Ahmad Syaikhu explained the reason his party decided not to nominate PKS Syuro Council Chairman Sohibul Iman as the prospective gubernatorial candidate for Jakarta in the 2024 Pilkada. Instead, Sohibul was decided to run as the prospective vice-gubernatorial candidate for Jakarta. The position of the prospective gubernatorial candidate was given to Anies Baswedan, who is the former Governor of DKI Jakarta for the 2017-2022 period. “I think PKS is also realistic about the nominations in DKI, and this is the best composition,” said Syaikhu at the Grand Sahid Jaya Hotel, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (25/6/2024).

“Actually, the PKS declaration yesterday did not meet the quota for candidacy, so we do not yet count Mr. Anies and Mr. Sohibul as definitive candidates,” said Habiburokhman at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (26/6/2024).

In the second round, the candidates’ power map was evident from the vote distribution in various regions and voter groups. For instance, Anies-Sandi tended to receive support from urban voters, while Ahok-Djarot was stronger in suburban areas. Additionally, younger and highly educated voters tended to support Anies-Sandi, while older and less educated voters leaned towards Ahok-Djarot.

Additionally, he mentioned that his party also listened to various inputs from figures, clerics, habaib, interfaith leaders, religious leaders, intellectuals, and the people of Jakarta. “The main considerations are candidates who have good leadership experience in both the executive and legislative branches, a proven track record, high credibility, capacity, and a high probability of winning,” he said.
