This document describes opportunistic encryption (OE) as designed and carried out by the Linux FreeS/WAN mission. OE uses the Web Key Trade (IKE) and IPsec protocols. The target is to permit encryption for secure communication with none pre-association specific to the pair of techniques concerned. DNS is used to distribute the public keys of each system concerned. That is resistant to passive assaults. The usage of DNS Security (DNSSEC) secures this system in opposition to active attackers as properly.
