The General Election Commission (KPU) of Indonesia has announced the schedule for the stages of the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) to be held in 37 provinces in Indonesia. This election will not take place in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) because DIY has special regulations that do not involve elections for the appointment of the governor and deputy governor. It is known that Yogyakarta has special regulations that are only possessed by a few other regions in Indonesia. This is stipulated in Law Number 13 of 2012 concerning the Special Status of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY).

Deputy Chairman of the Gerindra Party, Habiburokhman, stated that no political party has made a definite decision on who will be supported in the Jakarta Regional Election (Pilkada) . This includes Anies Baswedan, who has not been definitively nominated as a candidate for governor.

Meanwhile, Sandiaga admitted that there has been no directive from the PPP Central Executive Board (DPP) to run in the Jakarta Regional Election, but he expressed his readiness if assigned. “There has been no directive from the PPP leadership, so I, as a soldier, am ready to be assigned anywhere,” he said

The facilities in question, according to Andre, include assigning personnel to the PPK, PPS, and Panwascam secretariats, providing room facilities, logistical assistance, Trantibum, and most importantly, ensuring the neutrality of ASN .

In addition, Andre stated that he has asked the Secretary, district heads, and village heads to coordinate with the PPK, PPS, and Panwascam to provide support and attention regarding facilities provision.

The officials present included Acting Director General of Political and Public Administration Togap Simangunsong, Deputy Coordinator for Domestic Political Affairs at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Major General TNI Heri Wiranto, Assistant Deputy for Election and Political Party Management Brigadier General TNI Haryadi, Assistant Intelligence TNI Djaka Budhi Utama, Deputy Director of National Security Agency Police, Member of DKPP I Dewa Kade Wiarsa, Secretary of DIY, and Klaten Regent Sri Mulyani.

The 2017 DKI Jakarta Pilkada was the third direct regional head election for Jakarta. The Pilkada, held to elect the governor and deputy governor, garnered significant public attention as DKI Jakarta is one of the largest and most important regions in Indonesia. The voting process in the 2017 DKI Pilkada included several stages, such as voter registration, polling station (TPS) locations, and vote tallying.

“Technically, I ask KPU friends at the provincial, regency/city levels to always coordinate with local governments, the military, police, prosecutors, and courts, so that in carrying out their work or tasks, the election organizers can work well,” said Hasyim.

The second round of the 2017 DKI Jakarta Pilkada featured two candidate pairs: Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno, and the incumbent, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, known as Ahok. Anies Baswedan was a former Minister of Education and Culture, while Sandiaga Uno was a businessman and former deputy chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin). The two candidates were supported by different political coalitions, with Anies-Sandi backed by Gerindra, PKS, and PAN, and Ahok-Djarot supported by PDI-P, Golkar, and Hanura.

“Whether in the Advanced Indonesia Coalition (KIM) or in PKS, PDIP, no one has made a fixed decision. Is Anies confirmed to run? No, he isn’t. Has PKS confirmed to nominate Anies? No, they haven’t. Has PKB confirmed to support Mr. Anies? No, they haven’t,” said Habiburokhman at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday (June 20, 2024).

“The agreement between Mr. Airlangga (Golkar Chairman) and the other political party leaders is to wait until the end of July or early August,” said Doli at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday (June 20, 2024).

Political analysts and observers commented that these results demonstrated a strong public push for change in Jakarta’s leadership. They also emphasized the importance of not being overly fixated on the quick count results and waiting for the official results from the KPU to determine the winner of the 2017 DKI Pilkada.

Meanwhile, Ridwan Kamil revealed that he has received task letters to run in the 2024 Pilkada. However, he has not determined whether to contest in the West Java or Jakarta Pilkada. According to him, this is still being discussed at the Golkar Party DPP and will be decided soon. “Still considering, just wait until July,” Ridwan Kamil said when met by reporters at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Bali Airport on Friday, May 31, 2024.

However, he admitted that Ridwan Kamil’s electability has dropped as a candidate for Jakarta governor (cagub) in 2024, following the emergence of Anies Baswedan and Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, also known as Ahok .
