Abstract: The purpose of this study was to explore the mental skills used by professional ice hockey players and determine if Orlick’s (1992) “Model of Human Excellence” could be applied to these athletes. Focusing on the timeframe 1967-2000 the article highlights how norms, values and ideals changed over time and contributed to a change from ice hockey as an amateur sport based on idealistic motives and volunteer efforts to a professional sport based on entertainment and commercial forces. There are all twenty-two players over the playing field depending on the occurrences within the match. In-depth interviews were conducted with 10 National Hockey League players who had collectively played over 4500 NHL games, and scored 1025 goals. This study is examining both the direct and indirect serious adverse events caused by CAM. Knowledge is created by examining four separate but mutually contingent aspects of organizations. Article IV contributes knowledge on how experiences of mentioned structures are affected by remuneration, authority and centrality. Article II contributes knowledge on the structural organization of Swedish elite ice hockey clubs and contributing factors.
