When I use the word “addiction” I am referring to alcohol and drug addiction. There are different stages that family members go through on this bumpy road of addiction. In this article I will describe one of the most common stages parents experience, denial.

alcohol abuse facts Try to be decent with your spouse (even if they cheated, etc) when it comes to the kids. Remember that when you get divorced (regardless of who caused it) everyone will lose – you, your spouse, and your children. Do your best to come together and work it out for their benefit – do what is truly best for your kids – not what you feel is fair to you and your spouse. It may be a terribly painful thing to admit that your children are better off with your spouse (even if your spouse caused the divorce). To truly love your children, you MUST do what is right for them, not you. No matter what the outcome or distance, you are a family – you, your spouse, and your children will always be a family. No matter how much you despise your spouse, if you have children, you are connected.

substance abuse faces It is often a pity when people maltreat the brain cells by taking in so much alcohol or hard drugs such as cocaine or ‘weed’. These drugs are so powerful that, they usually end up destroying the brain cells. And of course once the brain cells are destroyed, it implicates a lot. Mostly madness sets in or some times the victim behaves abnormally which is usually not accepted by the society. This implies why most societies are strongly against illegal drugs and will always do what it takes to get rid of them. Among the brain facts, one hard brain fact is that, it obeys or thinks along side what you wish for it to do. This explains why criminals are what they are.

Contrary to what some may think, many seniors don’t typically want to live in the home of a relative; for as long as possible, they want to live on their own. In fact, research shows that only about 1 in 1000 would prefer to live with their kids. This population is not helpless by any means. The facts indicate that Americans over the age of fifty own 75 percent of all American assets and spend half the money. Close to 70 percent of them still own their homes. They vote and are often more active in the community than are those who are younger. Many even exercise regularly and work out at gyms.

drug addiction creates abuse facts The temptation of the drug-pusher is that, “Go ahead and try it. Once won’t hurt you.” That’s false. Even marijuana is bad for the body and mind. Marijuana’s smoke has more than 400 chemicals, and 60 of these have been proven to cause cancer. Moreover, when a person smokes pot, several things happen: 1) there is an almost immediate burn-up of vitamins and minerals in the body, and 2) the nerves in the body go numb. The FACT is that marijuana affects the nerves, the lungs, and the brain. Moreover, since drugs are stored in the fatty tissues of the body for a lifetime (lacking treatment), they stifle motivation, learning abilities, responsibility, and creativity.

I nod, looking away to give her a semblance of privacy. “What are you in for?” she asks. “Suspended license.” “How’d they get you?” “I didn’t use my turn signal on Sullivan’s Island.” I reply. Incredulous, she counters with, “Vultures.” I am relieved that she is as bewildered as I am. She informs me that breakfast will be soon. Moments later, the buzzer sounds, doors unlatch and swing out as women begin lining the halls waiting their turn.

We know that drug Abstinence is the goal and we know that drug abstinence training is effective. Opponents of drug prevention efforts argue that past drug prevention has totally failed. The truth is that drug preventative education does work and users are in the minority. Surveys show that even though drugs may be readily available to most students, the majority of them do NOT use.
